Italy in Japan

One of the largest exhibition of paintings by Renaissance master Raphael every organized outside of Italy will launch a major art and trade initiative with Japan. The "Italy in Japan 2013" series, presented by the Embassy of Italy in Tokyo, aims to promote Italian culture, lifestyle, and wine, as well as business, research and innovation.

After the program begins with the Raphael show, further exhibitions will present the works of Leonardo, Michelangelo, and other Italian art masters. Italian music and performance will be promoted with shows featuring artists from Venice's Fenice opera house, Milan's famed La Scala Theater, the Teatro Regio in Turin, Santa Cecilia music academy, Solisti Veneti chamber orchestra and jazz pianist Stefano Bollani. Italian film will also be promoted with a festival, and a major meeting of the Italy-Japan Business Group will round out the event.

"It is a rich and important program" leading up to celebrations in 2016 to mark the 150th anniversary of bilateral relations between Italy and Japan, said Domenico Giorgi, the Italian ambassador in Tokyo.
