In preparation for a gathering of world leaders in Rome on Friday for Pope John Paul II's funeral, authorities in Rome are putting in place a defense shield that will include a no-fly zone and anti-aircraft missiles.

Thousands of police reinforcements are arriving in the capital from across Italy. Crowd control operations are already well under way, with the city offering tents and campgrounds for hundreds of thousands of faithful pouring in without lodging.

Most forecasts predict an influx of millions people into Rome.
