So We don't Forget

The Italian national soccer team visited Auschwitz in Poland and laid a wreath to the victims of the Holocaust at an execution wall inside the Nazi death camp. "We are all obliged to go and see (Auschwitz) for many reasons," Italy coach Cesare Prandelli, whose side are in Poland for Euro 2012, said before the visit. "The first is so we don't forget and in order to bear witness to what happened. Then it's necessary to show the young generations that sometimes it doesn't take much to create a human disaster". After spending over an hour at Auschwitz, the squad moved to the nearby Birkenau extermination camp.

Italy start their Euro 2012 campaign against world and European champions Spain in Gdansk. The Azzurri's group at the tournament, which takes place from June 8 to July 1 in Poland and Ukraine, also features Ireland and Croatia.
