Jovanotti
Lorenzo Cherubini aka Jovanotti is a pop artist who uses rap as an element in his music.
He began his career in 1987 as a DJ on the popular Radio Deejay in Milano. Jovanotti transformed himself from his early recordings like Jovanotti for President and "La mia moto" (My Motorbike) geared toward teeny boppers to the more socially conscious releases "Una tribù che balla" (A Dancing Tribe) and "Lorenzo 1992". Jovanotti's early attempts at rap were in English and were excruciating painful. His catchy melodic hooks have marked him as an artist who creates what Felice Liperi termed "rap canzonettistico".
Jovanotti is often the only name Americans known when Italian rap is mentioned. His song "Piove"(It's Raining) is featured on the CD Peppers & Eggs from the soundtrack of popular TV series The Sopranos.
