Ferrari 599 GTO

A New Ferrari

The new Ferrari 599 GTO made its world debut at the 2010 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (Auto China 2010) and has already been sold out. The fact that this new model was premiered in China underscored the importance this developing market has for the Italian automaker, Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa said at the presentation. Also on display at the Ferrari stand was the new 458 Italia, which this year will be available in the Asia-Pacific area with the first deliveries in China expected in July.

The 599 GTO is a limited edition model with only 599 vehicles set to be produced, all of which have been snapped up. It is based on the 599XX prototype which has been developed only for the track and which this week became the first ever production-derived sports car to break the seven-minute barrier at Nurburgring's classic 20.832km Nordschleife track, lapping in 6 minutes 58.16 seconds. The 599 GTO is Ferrari's fastest-ever street car and its V12 engine, the same used in Formula 1, ensures a 0-100kph acceleration time of just 3.35 seconds and a top speed of over 335kph.

Despite the global economic downturn, Ferrari last year increased its sales in the Asia-Pacific region by 3% and the area now accounts for 20% of Ferrari's business with over 1100 cars delivered in 2009, a figure that represents 47 per cent of the market share.
