Film lovers will be able to relive the golden age of Italian cinema at a new photographic exhibition opening in Rome next month. The show, entitled 'Facce di Cinema' (Faces of Cinema), features portraits of the actors and directors who made the nation's film industry a world-beater in the post-war period.
The beautiful black-and-white images were captured by the famous Studio Luxardo, the photo studio of the stars in the 1940s, 50s and 60s.Actors Marcello Mastroianni, Claudia Cardinale, Anita Ekberg, Sofia Loren, Alberto Sordi and Gina Lollobrigida are among those on display, alongside directors like Vittorio De Sica and Federico Fellini.
"No one is missing," said Tiziana Luxardo, the photographer who continues the family business today and curated the exhibition. "All the portraits are in giant format, two metres by 80 centimetres. Only the halls of a venue like Palazzo Venezia could play host to such big heads".
As well as movie legends, Studio Luxardo's client list also included Nobel Prize-winning writer Luigi Pirandello and World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Primo Carnera.
