Italian Music - October 16

Classically-trained Italian pop star Andrea Bocelli has been nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in the category of Best Male Pop Album. Bocelli, who is on a world tour through 2007, received the news directly from the Academia Latina de Artes y Ciencias de la Grabacion, a Miami-based multinational association which organizes the Latin Grammies, which are for pop music in Spanish and Portuguese.

The 48-year-old Tuscan was nominated for his album 'Amor' in which he did covers of several Spanish classics including 'Besame Mucho' and Momentos'. The latter song was composed by Spanish crooner Julio Iglesias and Italian Tony Renis, who also produced Bocelli's album.

Italian pop princess Laura Paurisi won the Latin Grammy for best Female Pop Album last year but failed to be nominated this year, as did Tiziano Ferro who has had a successful year on the Latin market.
