Afghan classroom

Italian News - April 19

Italian soldiers have built two more schools in Afghanistan. The schools were built by an Italian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in western Afghanistan, like two others Italy unveiled in February - the first in the Herat area.

One of the new schools offers 12 girls' middle-school classes and 12 boys' high-school classes. The Italians sank a well to provide it with running water. The other facility is a girls' high school.

Since joining the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force after the Taliban were toppled, Italy has spent millions of dollars on roads, hospitals and schools in Afghanistan. It is also leading the reform of the Afghan justice system.
