Young Italians find it practically impossible to respect politicians, according to an internet survey published in the aftermath of the country's general election. Asked to name professions they respected, only 3% of the 1,700 people who took part in the survey mentioned the people who aspire to govern them.

"Young Italians seem to be extremely unhappy with their political class," said Nicola Rossi, head of, the job-seekers' web portal which carried out the poll. "They seem to prefer professions which involve actively helping people or training them," he continued, specifying that respondents were aged 25-35.

In fact, 47% of voters said doctors had the most respectable profession of all. The next most popular one was that of the teacher, which garnered 34% of votes.
