A selection of the epic Life magazine photographs that helped form our collective memory of the 20th century are on show at FORMA, Milan's International Centre for Photography. The exhibition is a tribute to the great photojournalists who captured every aspect of human experience, while interpreting the American publication's philosophy - To view life, to view the world; the motto printed in the first issue.

"These old photos continue to attract our attention and this is what differentiates the ambition of a photographer from that of a journalist," explained John Loengard, a former Life photo editor, in the book that accompanies the show. "The photographer's ambition is to create works that never lose their interest value".

The exhibition, entitled Life, I Grandi Fotografi (Life s Great Photographers), runs until September 3 and features 140 of the magazine's best images.
