No more than 60 films will be shown at the 2005 Venice Film Festival, which will be presided over by Dante Ferretti, art director and production designer close to the late Federico Fellini.
"We decided on a selection of less than 60 films so as to have more time to properly evaluate them," said event organizer Marco Mueller. "But the new thing this year is that many directors did not rush to have their films finished by mid-May and chose Venice rather than Cannes."
"The programme will be unveiled on July 28," Mueller also said of the August 31-September 10 event. "We are choosing the most beautiful and most significant films from around the world. Close attention will be paid to debut films and new faces in the hope of choosing works that can kick-start the debate on cinematic thought."
