Multi-millionaire Serena Williams pleaded poverty as she vowed to stay away from “expensive” Italian shops during the Rome Masters. “I’m excited to be here, I love the pasta, the pizza,” the American said in a flurry of cliches prior to opening at mid-week after a bye at the US $1.3mil event.
“But with the Euro, we Americans are really poor now.” Lamented the multitasker who crams in tennis with fashion design, acting and now a Williams sisters reality show. “It’s way too expensive here,” said the winner of nearly US$16mil in career prize money.
