Italian art director Dante Ferretti wins at the 77th Oscars, together with Francesca Lo Schiavo. It was his eighth Academy Award nomination. Ferretti was awarded for his work on the film bio-pic about Howard Hughes, "The Aviator", by the Italian-American director, Martin Scorsese.
The Italian art director recreated the Hollywood of the 30s and 40s for the film with his wife, Francesca Lo Schiavo, and a team of 150 people, including project designers, set decorators, builders painters and decorators. The couple started to work together in 1980 for the film "La Pelle" (The Skin) by Liliana Cavani.
When speaking to the press after the ceremony, Dante Ferretti said "I didn't believe it, even this time. It's not that I'd given up hope, I just didn't believe it. But it all went well and we're really happy and delighted".
When asked how he felt to win the prize together with his wife, Ferretti quipped: "It's great. We finally have two of these statues in one home!"
