Italian News - July 22
Italian police caught up with two gangs of teenage 'crackers' - the nastier version of Internet hackers. One cracker leader was 13 and attended the second year of a Como middle school. The other was a 16-year-old accounting student near Brescia with excellent marks in IT.
The Italian youngsters are accused of damaging systems produced by American software giant Microsoft. They reportedly hit foreign consulates as well as a string of car, construction, wine and clothing companies where they shut down home pages and replaced them with their logos.
The gangs were apparently known in the United States where they boasted about their exploits on a well-known hacker web site. In all, around a dozen Internet marauders were caught. The ringleaders were clearly surprised at being apprehended.
