The Italian Consulate General in Karachi is organising an art exhibition titled ‘Islam in Sicily: A Garden Between Two Civilisations’ at the Frere Hall from Saturday. The exhibition will represent cultural, academic, and artistic influence of Muslims in Italy during ninth century AD.
Italian Consul General Bruno A Pasquino told a press conference on Thursday that the exhibition would carry strong socio-political perspective in a larger context in addition to Italy’s cultural and artistic aspects. He said the exhibition would be a step forward toward bringing closer the two current civilisations, the West and East.
A document prepared in connection with the exhibition says: "Muslim conquest of Sicily influenced the lives and culture of the native people and contributed to the development of several fields such as Philosophy, Mathematics, Literature, Astronomy, Medicine, and other aspects of daily life such as the dialect and the food."
