The Italian rugby team was severely defeated today at Stadio Flaminio in Rome by New Zealand's "All Black", with a final score of 59/10. The only Italian goal was scored at 36' of the second half by player Mauro Bergamasco.

Stadio Flaminio was sold out for the occasion, this being the first time a rugby mach gathered a 25,000 audience in Italy.

John Kirwan, coach of the Italian team, declared: "We shouldn't play in awe of our opponent, instead of playing the game we spent too much time watching what they were doing. Italy played badly and I'm not happy at all, but playing against better teams is important and it will help Italy to grow".
